My department at work is being outsourced.

The boss just came in here just now and said the plan is for me to train the people from the new company to do my job so they can sack me in 7 weeks when their company takes over.

I asked "What's in it for me". No acceptable reply.

They've also pulled the project I was working on because they want to do it.

Do they really think I'm going to help in my own demise?

To be honest, I'm happy to take the redundancy money and run as I want to move to a different part of the country anyway, out west. Problem is I can't afford to retire, and part time jobs don't pay enough. Looks like I'll have to get another proper job for the time being.

Mr Kandy and I used to work for a large Electronics company{Plessey} in Northampton,he for 22 years and myself for 17 years. This company sold off our site to a Welsh firm doing the same sort of thing but smaller contracts.

They promised us all this that and the other, but three years down the line they decided to close the site and move it lock stock and barrel down to the wilds of Wales{Abercynon},but they had to send up the workers for us to teach them our jobs. They didn't want to come because of the animosity they thought would be against them.We were practically read the riot act and was told that if we didn't comply then we wouldn't be getting our redundency money...As it turned out the workers had nothing to worry about because it wasn't their fault and in the end we were all glad in a way that we wouldn't be working for such a company like that anyway...We just picked ourselves up and started again.....Good luck in all you choose to do Rich

Cheeky b*****s!!
In a similar situation I was told to compile a file of my methods and dimensions in the construction of Waste Compactor Units to 'assist'others should I ever be unavailable..
Obedient servant that I am ,I dutifully obliged...
Sure enough three months later the redundancy notices followed and my file fell into the hands of the take over companies workforce which they followed to the letter... [IMG] Remind me..is it 25 cm's or mm's to the Inch??

Hi Rich, good luck n evereything. Sometimes, acouple of part-time jobs can pay at least as well as a full-time job. They have to pay a little better in p-time work because of the lack of hours ;)

My daughter worked for a company a few years ago, and they wanted to move the office down to the south cost. They went down there and they showed the new people how the office run, a good bonus pluss all expences paid.
Then closed the office up at this end, Direct line joined in but to the companies astonishment, they wanted an office up hear in the north west!
All the old staff are now back together, and most of direct line is done through there office now! So don't give up hope!

Sorry to hear that Rich. My inclination would be to negotiate. Take the redundancy - and then negotiate an 8 week temporary contract on full salery equivelant to teach the new team. Both of you get benefit.

Sides if you've worked for a company for any length of time, it leaves a bad taste to let novieses ruin what youve worked to achieved - due to their lack of training.

I worked for Plessey back in the 1980s teaching traffic control systems, they started losing contracts and gave a redundancy notice that one of the four instructors would go, so I rang some friends at the opposition company that were winning the contracts, got a job at more money and a company car.
Said to Plessey if you make it worth my while I'll go now, save you having to mess about and got an extra £2000 redundancy.

Has the new company got all its staff?? We have been down the "outsourcing" route several times!! Was does happen quite often is the company coming in need new staff as its a new contract, and if you are in the right place at the right time can be made redundant, take the money and start a new job next day at your old desk. If you don't want to stay, at least by taking the job you can move on at your leisure. Won't hurt you to make enquiries!! Hope it works out, though. Try negotiating a terminal bonus....

Yes, and they are based in Nottingham...no thank you.
Try negotiating a terminal bonus....
We were told about a terminal bonus today, it's not great, but with the redundancy money and three month's notice and 30 day discussion period, it should be all I need to carry on while my wife and I redesign our life. [IMG]
