I live in mid beds, and that ain't so very far away. Like most of middle England it has the best of the climate, not too wet, not too dry, not too cold - hot, mmmm can be quite hot.

Traffic - not good, and with the govts expansion plans likely to get worse. Gardening, well it depends on the soil, but climate wise, very good. The rest, it depends on where, parts of Herts like any county are lovely, parts not so good. In comparison with London - well if you gave me a million pounds I would not move back to London.

Oh thanks dendy. We're quite open to suggestions as we don't know Herts at all...we're looking for a semi/rural location but not too far from London. We don't need schools yet (but will in the next few years). We want lots of space and fresh air! OH has lined up a couple of viewings in Cheshunt next week and we've seen a couple of places near Welwyn.

Thanks Fran. As you say, we did see some beautiful countryside but then also a few very industrial towns we weren't keen on at all. I hope wherever we decide on, we'll be able to say the same about leaving London. Now we're set on leaving the city, it's quite daunting....no more 1 minute walk to the corner shop/supermarket/post office/public transport/nightlife/family&friends. But privacy, space and a better quality of life are becoming much important to us now.
