Before my disasterous crash on Friday - when windows wouldn't start on the C: and the D drive where my main backup disappeared, the engineer trying to fix things a week before advised that I get Acronis True Image Ver 9.0. I did and it was the best decision I ever made. I had tried Norton Ghost and was not happy with it.

Whilst some of the functionality I have not used, or due to my failure to understand I could boot my cd straight from the Acronis CD to the Acronis programme, failed to use. Its ability to create a virtual drive from the full backup image on my external drive - allowing copying of all data files and folders - saved my bacon.

It can clone a disc, perform full or folder/files backup imaging, and as I discovered, can create a virtual drive from the back up image (disappears when you shut down the pc). I am also advised, that when, as happened to me, you suffer a major problem and windows will not boot, you can use the CD to boot straight to acronis and then restore from the Acronis backup. It will even do a full disc backup in small packages, if you have a FATS32 or similar small capacity file system on a backup drive. Added advantage its easy to use.

I'm back up and running and only lost a couple of days data - which I have re-inputed. So hopefully the grey hairs which appeared whilst I was struggling with the situation with tech support, will now revert to their normal colour.

Thanks, and so do I. I do not want a repeat of last weekend.
