Every month throughout the year I pay money towards shopping vouchers that pay for Xmas. I paid the penultimate instalment on Friday and yesterday the company went into administration and have announced that no-one gets a refund. I've lost £400. That was everything for Xmas - all the prezzies for my kids, Xmas dinner, goodies - everything. :( :(
I have no idea what I'm going to do.
The company, Farepak, must have known they were in difficulties a long time ago and yet they took all our money and waited until there's one payment left.
It's going to be a very sad Xmas in the Miller household

I too have been in a similar situation when i was owed 3 months wages by a goverment funded institution..and even if you take them to court you still get nothing..it stinks !!
And yes you are right they would have known months ago they were in financial trouble and those in charge deserve to be jailed..allthough they will just be declared bankrupt and start fresh elsewhere..keep smiling windy their is allways light at the end of the tunnell..

I'm just the same with links WF!
Still getting just a green screen???

It doesn't appear I can do anything to get my money back according to Farepak website. There may be a partial refund but that won't be before Xmas.
I'm just going to have to resign myself to losing Xmas for my kids and hope the people responsible who prey on the people with the least ROT IN HELL!!
Sorry, there goes the rage bit again!!

This is what it says on aol about it and its disgusting they would have known for months they were in trouble and yet they get away with it..you would think it was a simple set up where they banked the money and then exchanged it for vouchers etc..apparently not !!
Thousands of families are facing a bleak Christmas after hamper company Farepak stopped trading.

Farepak customers were told they would not get food hampers delivered for the festive season.

It came after the Swindon-based company went into administration and was forced to shut down its business.

Administrators BDO Stoy Hayward told customers: "The company is unable to deliver any orders for hampers, vouchers or gifts.''

It added: "At the present time, I can advise that you may receive back some money, but not all, and this will not be for many months.''

Farepak customers pay money to the firm on a monthly basis to secure hamper deliveries at Christmas.

The company, which was set up in 1969 and is part of European Home Retail, also sold televisions, electrical goods and jewellery through 35,000 agents across the UK.

BDO said: "The business has ceased to trade with immediate effect and unfortunately therefore is unable to honour its commitments to make deliveries of any vouchers, hampers or other items to its customers.''

Shagun Dubey, joint administrator and partner at BDO, added: "We have conducted an immediate review of the Farepak business and it is with real regret that it has been necessary to cease trading.''

A notice on the Farepak website warns customers not to send any more money to the company.

It also said there was some hope of repayment through a compensation claim but warned it could take months and would not be for the full amount.

well windy i think that is just awful i feel for you it is terrible news.
farepak are in catalogues arent they surely these people that pay into catalogues should have some protection as money is paid into accounts, I know my friend gets hers through her catalogue must ask her what company she gets her hamper from.
windy i know by experience what a struggle it is to get everything for children at xmas, i,ve over the years resorted to catalogue buying maybe get you big things from there like the mp3 player etc and from now each week in with your shopping get a xmas item, like after dinner mints and make a xmas cupboard thats what i am doing now, you can do it, there is plenty of time iff you start now, so xmas might not seem as bleak after all.
I know your fuming at the moment but come on just think to yourself them so and sos are not ruining my christmas and that is the best advice i can give you, come on girl you can do it [IMG]

I am so sorry Windy :( When I heard the news yesterday I was fuming and it didnt involve me

I only hope the people responsible will get their come-upance one day.

I had to spend all my Christmas money on paying a tax bill one year - that hurt

They have known about this all year as every april my husband recieves £60 worth of choice vouchers for going all year without any sick leave its just an incentive to stop people going sick ..and this april choice vouchers were no longer trading so he got his vouchers from another company ...so as farepak issue choice vouchers i guess they are just a bunch of crooks..taking money from the most vulnerable..do as the others say windy and buya bit extra every week ..and when its xmas go and gather holly and make your own decorations..xmas is to comercial anyway and i know kids expect a lot ..but if its not available then they have to go without and enjoy xmas as much as possible..its just a day and its soon gone..you cant give what you havnt got and life must be hard enough as it is..if you ever save weekly again stick it in one of these credit unions or building societys ..

Like MF I have only just seen this thread and think it is really shocking! What can I say that hasn't already been said - they should be sent to jail.

I bet they won't be going short this Christmas!!!

How old are your children Windy - old enough to understand? although I know it won't change the situation.

Hope all turns out OK in the end.

Windy.. Go to your local Citizens' Advice Bureau and also contact your local Trading Standards Office. They will give you honest advice and help you to salvage anything that can be salvaged.

Its a hard lesson to learn, but the message is clear - don't put your money at risk by trusting cowboys. Bung it in the building society, gain some interest and then take it out when you need it. (Sorry - I know its bolting the stabled door after the horse has long gone.)
