[IMG] Today is Friday the 13th..!! This is where I would love to be today.. If I could have organised my holiday to incorporate it I would have, but sadly not to be...!!!! We were not Harley riders but BSA & Enfield... The Good old English bikes..!!! Those days of riding are now sadly gone, but when I look at todays roads, I'm not that sorry..!!!! This gathering is for bikers from all over the world, & the town loves it all. No cars allowed in, they run a park & ride system... So sensible & no troubles either... Ho hum.....!! Maybe one day just to say I have been..!!!! [IMG] Here's wishing them a great day!!! http://www.pd13.com/ [IMG]

I loved the old bikes too. BSA and Triumphs for me and my Dad had an Indian. Stuff your modern Japanese sewing machines!

Remembering harsh winters - I recall riding for hours through freezing fog and when I arrived home, my whiskers were frozen stiff with ice just like an arctic explorer. Wish I had some photos from those crazy days (late 50's early 60's)

Yes and nowadays they have leathers with in-built electric heating pads! Just soft. I wore a sheepskin flying jacket and in my Dad's day it was a flat cap and goggles - no space helmets then.

Well, with the speed these modern bikes get to, Im glad the gear is a bit more sofisticated - and that a modern helmet may save you life instead of just slipping off  No heated pads for me H - Im always warm enough ;)

Yes and you are right of course, Marge. We regularly "did the ton" and there was no 70mph limit then. The diagonal black speed sign simply meant that there was no speed restriction. When the first motorway was opened - the thing was to race up it from London to Birmingham in an hour.

What has happened to your avatar?

:( Also you must take into consideration the huge volumes of traffic on all our roads today too, HB... Everything is much bigger & faster as well, as are our lives. You need all the body armour that they have today, very often built into their leathers....! Motorcycling was a pleasure then, for me anyway. Carried on riding right up to the very early eighties. We decided then was a good time to hang up our helmets & leathers...!! [IMG] I know allot of you find pleasure riding today, Long may you enjoy it.!! [IMG] The comfort of todays bikes is nice, You have to take most of them to dealers for service these days, that I think is a shame.. The one thing I think I would miss most, would be sitting in the shed on long cold nights fixing the bike for the next day...!!!!! [IMG] :D

Well Mr Marge would agree with you MF about the taking apart and putting back together thing - a couple of old wrecks have surfaced bright and shining from our shed in the past

I, ofcourse, always provided encouragement and the odd expression of wonderment at his ability to do magic ;)

PS I love my leather jacket [IMG]

My grandfather was the only biker in my family. He even named two of his sons Norman and Douglas.

Nowadays I suppose they'd have been called Honda and Suzuki. Well, he couldn't call one Moto Guzzi, that would be ridiculous.

Two of my bikes. No photos, but two paintings I did at the time (that's why they are a bit grubby)
No in-bult computers or electronics just good British engineering. Do we have any kind of manufacturing industry left today?
