Hi, I shop at Morrison's [because it is nearest], Asda, Sainsburys, Waitrose and occasionally M&S. I had a bit of a problem with Morrisons when they installed their coin released trolleys, but solved this by buying a token from a charity shop which I keep on my keyring.
I have to say that I have always had courteous and helpful service, and the checkout people are always ready to help with packing. The Morrisons staff always wait/ help the customer at the till and only turn to the next customer when the previous one leaves.
They even look after their plants well, so no reject orchids for me!

I'm with Fran on this one! ;)
But I have to say ,the staff in Tescos in Evesham are very polite and helpful.
They always ask Mrs Pal if she needs a packer..to which she replies..'No thank you,I've brought my own!'...Then of course, I have to endure the next five minutes of banter from any female within ear shot about how..... 'They do have their uses'..'Can I have him when you've finished'..or 'What a good little worker he is'!!!! [IMG]
    Yep...Online for me! :D

Just about all stores here have coin-release trolleys. I think this all came about in England because people were stealing trolleys ... just what everyone wants littering their garden. When I was last there, the summer of 2004, only Somerfield were using the c-r trolleys.

It was always the then Safeway staff who I found unhelpful with the general attitude that you were interrupting their day by queryig something. On more than one occasion I waited for several minutes at a Customer Service desk, tapping my fingernails on the counter, while two clerks chatted about their personal lives! Once I returned an empty store-brand tin of lima beans because the beans were like bullets. At first they would not accept it because I had no receipt ... I said I did not need a receipt as it was their tin and within the sell-by-date, then the clerk asked me where the beans were. I asked for a Manager and eventually was given a refund begrudgingly. I really didn't care about the refund, I wanted them to know they were selling food not fit to eat! I only shopped there because it was the nearest big shop.

i live in smallstown, west coast of scotland and there is only one supermarket, it happens to stock the only fresh and reasonably priced veggies in town, and the staff are trained to help you with packing .... tho i can manage my own thankyou very much
it was a Safeway, and had a nice cafe, Morrisons replaced the formica top tables with old wooden things, which are generally rather grubby looking, the cutlery is not cleaned properly and neither are the wooden trays: after one particularly bad spell of unhygenicity!, the staff were actually wiping the cutlery with sanitised wipes ,,, some confused thinking on behalf of the management i think [i used to inspect kitchens]
i cant see any point in complaining, if the staff are oveloaded, the management says they are not aware of the problem [is nt that what they are paid for?]in general terms the staff only work for a few months and then move on, well go back to school i think, the cafe staff are all friendly and helpfull, but only capable of working at one pace .... i once complimented one girl on her efficiency [clearing tables] and she admited she was a supervisor and so had to set the standard ........ she has now disapeared from the staff, i guess she got a better job

we have everything here, except Waitrose, and I go to all of them depending on what I want - but have to agree with Fran and Nick - on-line is best!! I do tend to do a bit of impulse-buying, and don't do it as much on-line.

If I have to supermarket shop, it's Waitrose for me - they endeavour to stock locally produced produce & all the staff are friendly, chatty & helpful.

Many many years ago I had a very short spell working the tills at a supermarket and never in all my days have I had to endure such rude people (customers). ALL thier days' upsets came my way - they would huff & puff and I'm sure if push came to shove they could have probably blown the supermarket down lol ! I would try and be cheerful and polite but apparently ALL thier woes were my personal fault! Needless to say, the job got me down and I blew my top at one particularly rude customer and walked out.

Whenever I shop now, I make a point of being overly polite and thankful to whatever poor soul has to shove the groceries through the bleep machine - been there and done it and it's soul destroying at times.

We only have Asda and Morrisons here, Tescos and Waitrose are up north in Dorchester and Sainsbury's is in Poole forty mins away, so not much choice. In- house advisor says since Morrisons has taken over from Safeway the standard of checkout staff has gone down hill, and the shelves seem to be stacked higher. The till staff in Asda are more helpful.

Try Asda they are great where I live a real pleasure to go in and be greeted politely....
Went into M/S the other day bought just a few things old boy at the checkout head down pushed the things along then said the price...so I ignored him when he finally looked up at me I said ...Good morning Madam...And asked him why he did not smile like the girls at Asda did? he looked long and hard at me then after a moment he smiled and remarked that he would quite like to be a girl at Asda, the customers behind me had a laugh but I bet he remembered that customer... :D :D :D
PS I do Waitrose when I am flush

Has anyone noticed those covered areas where the trollies are kept, well thats what we have at Morrisons, think its designed to keep the trollies dry.
Bearing that in mind, can anyone explain to me why the lads that collect the trollies always put more into the covered area, than there is, covered area.(If that makes sense).
The end trollies are always sticking out from under the cover, this ensures that every customer goes into the shop with a soaking wet trolly, when its raining.
Morrisons have cleverly sorted this problem by providing trolly wipes........ just inside the exit. [IMG] [IMG]

Yes,........ they do always seem sticky,.......... but then the rain does tend to wash that off, if the trollies are left sticking out from under the shelters.
Its all starting to make sense now. :D

    :D :D :D

I find that supermarket trolleys always seem to turn anti-clockwise when you only want them to go straight! :D
