Just came back from the annual Sand Festival here ... only 15 minutes away from us (NOT at the beach, I might add). Fantastic, although I liked last year's Lost Worlds better, I think. Here is a preview of this year's ... Mythology .... go into Galeria ...

I will be putting some of my pics (in particular night time shots, during the week).

    Hope you enjoy! [IMG]

PS The site has been removed, obviously because the Festival ended yesterday, so you'll just have to enjoy my pictures and the ones on the English website! :(

True Marge our sand sculptures are done every year by the grandson of the original sculptor Fred Darrington who sadly is no Longer with us.

Glad you're enjoying it too, folks. It's an annual event here now since four years past. They are mostly European, but also USA and Brazlian artists. If you read ... or tried to read ... the other parts, it's a four-month affair and it's world acclaimed.

Must sort out my pics ... got caught in "dusk" and I lost most but may be able to put a few up tomorrow.

It's very difficult to choose ... so for tonight I'll just do these three, which I don't think I have to explain ...

Here's a few more. I had very few good ones due to the failing light when we went. Good job I bought a brochure!

This was one of my favourite, Merlin at Camelot ..

    Romulus & Remus ...

Freyja, the Norse goddess of love and fertility, with The Dragon, symbolising eternity ...

    Zeus ...

    ... and Aphrodite ...

I noticed in the English blub they said the carvings were done in ten days!! I'm sure it was weeks here, maybe four and not the six to eight I said earlier.

Yes, I would assume they are paid, especially if they do several venues at a time. Ours ran from 25 May to today (20 September). For adults it was 7 Euros (I won my ticket) so that just under £5. The English one was 17 June to 10 September at £6 per adult. It was heaving at our the other evening (another reason I would have liked to have gone early) so just imagine how it was in tourist season (July/Augst) when the coachloads arrive! There's a lot of money passing hands so I would hope the artists get paid!

This was our fourth year. We missed the first two as we were in England for the summer but my sister saw the second one. We saw last year's and this and no doubt will keep going as I think it may be a "permanent" event.

Once built the structures can withstand quite heavy rain ... it would only be sustained downpours that would damage them. Some of the turrets in this year's was from last year!

    Wonderful! Excellent! Fantastic!

Wish Hubby and I could have seen it in real, but at least we got to see your pics LofL.

There was a mini Sand Festival up on the coast not far from us this summer and we went to see it. Good thing we both got in for free or we would have been annoyed at paying ââ??¬4 each. The theme was Dragons, which I love by the way, but they were all modern ones and we were hard put to recognize some of them as such. So your pictures make up for our disappointment here.

Thanks, K-D. I'm sure it appears to be the same folk doing it in England now by that link BM sent. Did you look at that? Again a Mythology theme but only one thread of it whereas ours was varied.
