Ok so i put on some moss killer/weedkiller killed off the moss and 90% of the weeds i didnt have a scarifyer so i used a wire rake and raked out as much moss/weeds as i could i left the lawn for a few days to recover from the abuse then got some lawn seen sadly all i could afford at the time was focus own brand seed so i went out with the rake ruffed up the bald areas a little spread the seed over according to the pack and then brushed in some multi purpose compost kept it moist for around 3 weeks and nothing happened so i repeated all the above minus the weed & moss killer but this time i used evergreen multi purpose seed and alas nothing  i water once in the morning when its cool and once at night to be honest i`m stumped as to why its not taking a hold any idea's folks ?

    sorry for the long post

You might have resown a bit too early after using a moss and selective weed killer. Residual traces in the soil could have inhibited growth immediately after germination. Or it might be a problem with temperatures which have fluctuated considerably down here and probably more so in Scotland?

Whatever the cause, you now seem to be under way and you're definitely better off without the moss!

see i was thinking about that weedkiller but then i thought well if it can be used on grass surely it wouldnt hurt the seeds but i suppose it has maybe if needs be il wait a month or two after some good waterings and re-seed if thos batch dose not take a good hold and clear the bald patches dose that sound wise?

The weedkillers that you use on lawns usually have some sort of guidance in the instructions about when to use them. I've just looked on the side of my packet of Evergreen Complete and it says "not to be used on lawns less than 6 months old". This implies to me there's some risk to newly seeded grass and therefore to seeds themselves. Your weedkiller is likely to be the same.

But with all the watering you've done, you may have removed any residual weedkiller in the soil. It's probably best just to leave it as long as you can before trying again.

to be hinest i didnt even think about it i just asumed that being it was safe to use on lawns it wouldnt hurt the seeds lesson learnt it was a spray weedkiller i cant recall its name just now but it was only a spot treatment type spray bottle.
i can see sings of life i think i might have to go over it again but in a few months

i feal like a right numpty now lol
