I'm boring, I drive a Volvo S80 - but drive it like a sports car! A Volvo saved my life in the 1970's and have had one ever since - it is also good for my bad back.

My first new car was an interesting manufacturers mistake. Never understood how it happened. In 1963 I ordered a Ford Anglia 105E (sloping back window type) at the expensive on the road price of Ã?£535. The basic Anglia had a 997cc engine and the 105E had an 1197cc engine - quite powerful in those days. When I took it in for its 600 mile service (they used to just give it a quick once over under the sales agreement) I told them that it seemed to be performing a lot better than the spec said. The chief fitter (called mechanic in those days) was a customer of mine and said he would check it out properly. He phoned me later that day and said he had some news for me. He had road tested it and had also felt it was performing too well. After checking it he found out why. Instead of having the standard 1200 Ford Cortina engine (which is what they put in the 105E) it had a Cortina GT engine with a racing gearbox. This was all double dutch to me he said that he would have to look into it to see why it had happened and if it was safe. It turned out that they had constructed it specially at Dagenham for one of their executive's sons but had been sent to my main dealer by mistake, and sold to me. The main dealer said that Ford had asked for it back and offered me Ã?£50 for the inconvenience. Being the 'nice' person that I am I said "you must be joking" [IMG] [IMG] and drove it for nearly 100,000 miles before the body started falling apart.

I think they are lovely, especially now I have heard the other week that the Mexicons are now making them and shipping them over to here.It is said that you can pick them up for £18,000 brand new,so I had better start saving.Might have enough by the time I am 60

I hadn't finished that last post.I was just about to say I drive a Ford KA.I know a lot of people don't like them, but it gets me from A-B and is quiet nippy.
The only bit I don't like is the colour, puple,as people round here call me the purple peril...and I love them too. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

They started remaking the old beetle in Mexico in the early 90's. Would be great to see some new build classic VW campers about.

We had one for a while. It was a noisy rustbucket and was forever breaking down.
Now if it was redesigned along the lines of the new Beetle, I might be more impressed.

Here's a picture [not mine] of the only car I've ever had which I got excited about. Mine didn't have the posh tyres and back bits but otherwise the same, and my favourite colour, too!

... and a couple of my "English" cars ...

... my lovely Opel Manta ....

... and my fun Suzuki 200 (sadly only made for 2 years) ...

I was always a biker - big BSA iron horses with a throaty roar and punch ups with Mods at Brighton. Moved on to a Triumph Tiger and then after marriage a Honda "Sewing Mahine" for commuting. First car and the only one I loved - a red Ford Anglia 105E. Worst car I owned was a Vauxhall Viva, best car was a Nissan Bluebird and I stuck to Nissans until I got my fastest, flashiest car which was a Ford Probe.

Now we have a Ford Fiesta (Mrs H's) and a Talbot camper which I bought after flogging the Probe when I retired 10 years ago. Simply superb - reliable, cruises happily at 80, sleeps 4, comes complete with kitchen, cooker, washroom, shower, underfloor heating and all mod cons. Been all over in it, wake up to a new view every morning and the whole of Britain is my back garden.

End of the day - everyone's pride and joy finishes up like this:

Fantastic, Fantastic, Fantastic, Fantastic, Fantastic, Fantastic, Fantastic, Fantastic, Fantastic, Fantastic, Fantastic, Fantastic, LoL

I collect Scalextric cars, Chevrolet Camaro's being my favourites. I couldn't get hold of a superbird but I could have had the v. similar Dodge Charger Daytona

I already have the 1970 roadrunner and 1970 Hemi Barracuda :D

Do I get the general impression you like it? ;)

We had a 57 Chevy Bel Air in copper / cream when we first married. I traded my maple coffee table stereo (you lifted the hinged top and all the gear was inside) and t'other half's motorbike for it when he was at work! :D :D :D I thought it was more sensible transport than a bike for shopping! :D

I saw so many cars on that site, my head swam ... I have e'd it to t'other half's computer so we can look at the same time, if need be! Shall go have another look! [IMG]

LoL...wow! I nearly bought a 1957 Caddy Coupe de Ville convertible with the automatic hard top from a guy in Mexico City in 1979. He found me sleeping under it one morning and said it was mine for $200. I had just that much from a rowstabouting job in Canada, a week more holiday left, and a plane ticket, but didn't know how to get it back to the UK.

my first car was an MG Magnette, bought 2nd hand in 1961 by my Grandad. I got that in 1977, nearly had a Rover 3 Litre, then I got given a Rover 80 which I couldn't afford to fuel up so it was sold, then a Singer Gazelle, and a string of disreputable vans and trucks. Now I'm way posh with a 3 year old Transit truck that I bought new!!. Mrs J drives a Golf. Exciting - no, but they get us about without complications. Still dream of as Alvis though. ;)
