We, (western, non veggies) often eat bits of cow, pig, sheep & chicken, but but very few other meats. Why; Economics of production? Cultural acceptance? What meat have you eaten? What meat would you try?

Most of the animals eaten are herbivorous, and naturally live in herds, which makes production easier, I suppose. Supplying large quantities of meat to carnivores would be economically self-defeating? We are also told that herbivores taste better! i have eaten camel and horse meat, neither of which tempted me to try again....I wish i could become a vegetarian, as the way animals are kept givs a lot of cause for concern.

I think if everyone had to kill their own meat there would be a lot more veggies.

So what meats would you refuse to try?
(assuming that it's presented in an appetising way).

Hedgehogs! Any animal normally kept as a pet [even snake]. When I was little my dad used to shoot deer, gamebirds, rabbits, hare on Luneburg Heath, I grew up thinking venison was what everyone had for Sunday dinner. Delicious!
I agree very much with Pete and Tortuosa, if I had to kill an animal myself I would be vegetarian- but as a friend pointed out, we are hunter-gatherers and no-one would ever have been obliged to kill things.
I used to like lobster and crab but having seen them swimming round tanks waiting to be chosen, I can't countenance eating them any more!
As for vegans, I am in a quandary as to whether anything is 'freely given' by a plant. Moral objections could be raiseed to almost everything.

I can understand vegans who wont wear leather shoes because its a dead animal
and i would not wear the fur of any animal esp if it is has been shot for the fur trade only
...... i try to buy organic food and am concerned about animal welfare
BUT as a country person i have to be realistic .. animal activists release birds and animal into an alien envirinment where they are soon dead

Theres a risk in any food you eat or air you breath. Accumulated toxins are a risk worth taking to be top of the food chain.
