Though I do not eat Red meat's etc, Homosapiens do have 'canine' teeth, meaning we are a species of carnivores.

What do you feed your dog Lisa? Chum, Pal or another tinned meat of some kind ?

There is cruelty that goes with the meat you feed your dog.

    Nathan.

Nathan excuse me for the slight correction - homo sapiens like their close relatives the chimps are omnivores - canines and molars - we eat anything, :D :D .

I thought that was racist too Liz, be careful how you word things in future, my husband is Chinese and I have heard people say things like that before about their food and it's not right.

It's not unbelievable Nathan, I am a vegetarian, do not eat any meat or fish where as my husband eats anything and I don't have a problem with people eating what they like. What I do have a problem with is people like yourself that post links to sites that sell veggie dog food and say unbelievable. It's well known that dogs with food intolerances do very well on this type of food, as do humans. Theres nothing wrong with trying something like this on your animal. Even if your a veggie or vegan and don't want your dog to eat meat, it won't kill him/her and might prolong their lives. I get really angry when veggies and vegans are targeted in this way, I've come across forums that do this alot, why shouldn't vegans etc express their views, meat eaters always do and we never give them stick for it. Each to their own, I'm with Lisa on this one. It takes alot to be a vegan remember that. :(

Please read my previous post carefully, Paradise. It had nothing to do with race!

Good God, [excuse idolatry] I had no idea the chinese ate worms-uurrghh!
It was actually supposed to be a satirical comment about intolerance and bigotry, but I'm afraid it fell on deaf ears!
I know that there is a great deal of cruelty in the world today, Lisa. Most of us do, and in as much depth as you. I said we have a duty of care: as yet it is not always exercised, but that does not make it any less true, nor does it make eating meat wrong.
Try to be more accepting of others' points of view- because you hold a view strongly does not make it right.

You would do well to take the advice in it ,as well as Lisa.

Isn't it strange how Veggies and vegans are always instucted by meat eaters to "take advice" and to listen to others views as ours are too strong, if we listened to meat eaters we would be dead by now because meat kills. My conscience is clear anyway, if we have a duty to animals as you say then we would stop eating them.

As to the rest of your post, to use Lisa's [offensive, as many of her posts have been] term, it is b******s. Trying to feed carnivorous animals on herbivorous diets is as wrong as it was to feed cows on meat products [and remember where that lead!]. It is not the meat eaters on this panel who are offensive and extremist, but one particular vegan who is constantly attacking and hectoring everyone else. The tone of this forum until recently has been comical, satirical, and ABOUT GARDENING. Please let it stay that way.

Paradise, it is simply NOT TRUE that meat kills! Extravagant unthought out remarks like this do your cause no good. You are entitled to your point of view, so are others to theirs. With regard to clear consciences, I dare say Hitler had a clear conscience: what does that prove?
I said, for the 3rd time, that we have a duty of care towards animals; this is true whether we eat them or not.

Lets not start arguing about this, each to their own and all that. I only said 'unbelievable' because I didn't know that such dog food was available.

I agree with points made from both sides, but it is my 'choice' as to what I eat. And my earlier post saying I was 'almost' a vegetarian must have stirred something with Lisa, which sorry if you disagree, but I am almost, eating meat/fish is not a necessity for me. But you can't beat Fish and Chips.

    Nathan.

Ps please get this post back 'on topic' now, if you want to rant about Omnivores or Vegetarians, please start a new topic.

I was quoting "The Vegetarian" magazine of the Vegetarian Society. Or do you refute what they have to say as well! I realise this is an emotive subject for you, lisa, but it's not for others. Calm down and let's get back to gardening!

Anyway - anyone keep cats? They can't be fed a veggie diet as they are "obligate" carnivores. Ask your vet.

Not wishing to inflame the argument in anyway, but I am curious as to why they make veggie meals taste like meat.
I'm referring to this soya type material, that they say tastes like meat.
    Why?

i think you'll find that any meatless diet intended for cats has to have added taurine. This is not naturally found in plants, but is essential for a carnivores' health, as MD saysThe diets should be described as artificial rather than vegetarian. [IMG]
