About 18 months ago a friend asked if I was interested in an 8x6 greenhouse (he wanted to get rid of his). I said Yes, he then said that someone else was interested but if they didn't want it I could have it for free. The other day I got a phone call to ask if I was still interested. Thursday I went to take out the glass (about 2/3 of it) and Friday took the rest out and dismantled the frame. It was almost the same as my 30 year old greenhouse. I now have a greenhouse which needs new bolts and nuts, and some new glass.

My next door neighbour is going to bring his digger in to prepare the site (he's a Civil Engineering Contractor), I then have to lay a base, build a 9" block wall (to give more height) and build the greenhouse.

Good for you Larkshall but it was quite a wait! Not really sure if I could have waited that long as I'm one of those women that like things like 'yesterday' Lol. Good luck will your building may it go without a hitch and I wish you many years of growing fun out of your 'new' greenhouse. ;) Hel.xxx.

Wonderful! How exciting for you - I raised and extended my greenhouse recently and the extra height is a real bonus.
Let us know how you get on and have fun!

My neighbour was unable to do the job owing to other committments. So I decided to site the greenhouse on an old concrete base where I already have two sheds. I had a look round his yard and found 18 concrete blocks, phoned him and asked if he would sell them to me. He said "NO, but you can have them". So the 9" base wall is in place and the frame is nearly ready for glazing. Just need some good weather to finish it off.

Everything on hold. Miserable weather, drizzle and cold, I shall wait until it gets better.

Better day today, but it is our pensioners cycle ride to a pub for lunch (33 miles). Still I did get home about 3.00pm so was able to clean some more glass. I shall put some in this evening.

I got the glazing finished after a struggle, sorting odd sized pieces of glass takes a lot of time. It's much easier starting from scratch and cutting the glass yourself. I've started installing bubblewrap but I've tried duct tape and weatherproof tape but it won't stick, comes away after a few hours. I think I shall have to drill some 2mm holes in the frame to tie string to support it.

Oh well, I shall get there in the end.

dont you find that putting a bit of work in for a freebie is worth the efort.
i know it dont pay the bills etc, but for shere personal satisfaction . the efort put in is well worth it.
your green house is awating your personal touch . it's going to be better than any shop purchase.

I have now installed the bubblewrap. I got rid of the tape and got some Evostick Solvent Free Impact Adhesive and a 1/2" paint brush. I painted the adhesive onto the glass around the edges (next to the frame), allowed it to dry then pressed the bubblewrap onto it. You only need to put the adhesive on one surface. It's a bit like paperhanging. Makes a very tidy job of it. The bubblewrap can stay on as it will retain heat and also diffuse the suns rays.

I've now transferred the plants from the other greenhouse and shall treat that one the same way, I shall grow tomatoes in that.

Went to Homebase this afternoon, saw two louvre window openers marked down to £4.99. Bought them both.
