Greenhouse Help

Only one possible problem if the nuts and bolts are all safe at the moment. That is they may be very soft and it is easy to sheer them off whilst getting them tight enough. We snapped a few and no spares were provided. But our local garden centre, which is useless for plants, did have bags of spares.

 

I was in the same situation last summer when I bought a new 8x6, poor instructions but used a brochure of a completed greenhouse and worked from there, I built mine in a big shed, 1st one side and lent this on a wall then other side/end/door end.

You need help to bring four bit together and bolt up, then ridge and roof trusses

Plan ahead to where the diagonal supports and cross supports go as bolts will need slotted into the correct upright, same with the window support

I have also purchased second hand 8x6 and 10x6, the way I dealt with this was to remove glass but move the frame as a whole
I had access to a tractor and trailer to do this, it would be well worth the effort to find some one with a towbar and trailer to help

i have just been given an 8x6 greenhouse
my husband is a bit wary in case he gets the
frame twisted,is it quite wobbly?did you have any bother moving yours?its only 3 streets away
so no great distance ,could nearly carry it with some help .what do you think thanks kathy

 

Don't undo it Kathy. Take the glass out and if you have to .. carry it. Try to keep the base supported, even if you have to slide it, the top will look after itself. If it's still in one piece and you can get it home in one piece, you have a winner. Don't worry about the glass if the odd piece gets broken. Just watch your fingers and buy a new piece, (I don't mean leave the glass in). Perhaps employing half a dozen teenagers at �£10 a time to carry it round, holding the base is possible?

I moved an 8 x 6 alluminium framed greenhouse across from one side of the allotment site to the other a few years ago by carrying it.

All glass was removed and two of us, one at either end, moved it quite easily...the glass is the awkward heavy bit

 

Quite right Tipsy. A couple of peeps can move one short distance with no probs. They are light. The only reason I am suggesting several teenagers is because it is being moved a few streets. They will want watching during the operation though to make sure nobody wants to play silly people.

 

Kathy, your easiest solution, assuming you or your husband can use a spanner. Dismantle the roof. Being a 6x8 you will just have the ridge bar and and 6 glazing bars. When you`ve done that just separate the walls from the front and back, that`s what, 8 bolts? If it`s on an aluminium base, slacken off the clips and you can then carry it all, section by section, to your garden. Which makes it a lot easier to get through the gate. When you`ve got it all in your garden, reassemble in reverse order. As John says, take the glass out first.

hooray got my greenhouse
no bother just walked it up the street,
couple of big rig workers ,up and over
6ft fences ,over clothes poles, nae boather,
all stabilised screwed down ,cleaning glass, puting in bubble wrap first,easy peasy :D

 

you should think of greenhouse erecting for a living Kathy lol

Congratulations Kathy. I was without a greenhouse for a few years and only put up a new one just around Christmas. How did I manage without? And I bet we are milder than you.

went up to homebase,cant get in to garden centre ,as they have about a dozen men redoing it.new shelving new stock,making it loads bigger
its to be ready for the weekend
