    Hi all,

I have just put up my tunnel and have no experience in growing whatsoever, but have been told that I might get a crop of Potatoes for christmas diner. My question is what might give me the best results, am I barking up the wrong tree. What should I use and where might be the best place to purchase from, as we do not have a wide choice of garden centres. I am more than happy to experiment.

    Regards Leadbelly

    hi leadbelly

i may be wrong as this is my first yr in growing spuds , veg ect but think its too late to put spuds in now ! not sure under a tunnel though

i wanted to do the same thing myself and could'nt get any seed potatos from anywhere as i was a bit late (july)

so i found some in the cupboard from asda :D which had lots of sprouts on so..................

i have put them in pots and they are growing really well .

i bought all my seed potatos off ebay they were really good prices got about 40 for £7.00

i know that suttons and thompson & morgan do them quite a few online garden places do its worth shopping around.

if your desperate like me then you could always have a rummage in your cupboards for a few sprouted ones :D otherwise leave it till next february .

sure someone will answer who knows alot more than me.

    happy growing

    lisa

Hi Leadbelly. I am chipping in because, although I don't actually grow any veggies, I always follow the threads.

You are living in Ireland? And you actually ask about growing spuds?

Sorry. Sarcasm is a terrible thing :D

[IMG] Hi Leadbelly, I grew some a few years ago now in a cold greenhouse & they were delicious.. [IMG] I found these links I hope they will help...

[IMG] Right or wrong, I used some organic "Desiree" potatoes I had left over that I chitted on the windowsill.. They grew really well & I had a good harvest. Lots of lovely small red potatoes about 2" long.. Happy growing.... :D

Hi guys thanks for the help, sarcasm and links very useful. Things look hopefull from a time point of view, just need to see if there is a local supplier for the spuds. The tunnel should help with the weather conditions.

Leadbelly its fine to grow spuds now to be ready for christmas, pop a few in pots or tubs keep them in your tunnel and away you go, they may not crop heavy but you harvest them when they are most appreciated, T&M usually do an offer soon for the very purpose of growing spuds for your christmas plate, if not do as c/woman says find some that have started to sprout in a cupboard.
