I really wanted a greenhouse this year but hubby wouldn't let me have one cos he thinks I'm cluttering up the garden and the kids will smash the glass playing ball so its a waste of time.

I bought all my bedding plants last year and as you know when you add up the cost they do come quite expensive.

So this year I thought right. I've bought lots of seeds and put them in pots. Thing is you get quite a lot of seeds in a packet don't you. I have pots on window sills, the floor, surfaces and anywhere where there is a space near a window.
My method is that he will get so fed up of falling over plants and pots that he will come up with the idea that he really must let me have a greenhouse next year.
What do you think are my chances ha ha?

Sounds like reasonable tactics to me, L! :D And you could always put up a trellis to grow beans up, to protect it from footballs......

You could always use safty glass or poly sheets instead of Horicultural glass [IMG]

Every gardener should have a greenhouse, it does not have to be glazed with horticulural glass, you can use twin walled polycarbonate, laminated glass or toughened glass. Obviously these last three are going to be more expensive in the short term, but in the long term they will prove to be the most economical. The most important thing about buying a greenhouse is to buy the biggest one your pocket and garden can afford. Believe me you will never buy one big enough for your needs. David.

Thank you for your answers everyone.
I planted some marigolds today. Had to buy some more pots ha ha. At least they are a once only buy. I bought some the other day from Homebase and they were £1.49 for ten. In Wilkinson they are only 69p for 10. Quite a difference there.

In regard to the greenhouse, I never realised you had so many choices of glass. I do wonder as well if I get one does the heat from whatever heater you buy go straight out the roof so you have to have the heater on quite hot all the time? Do you have to buy some kind of insulation for the roof in the wintertime?
    Sorry to sound so silly.

    Hi Painted Lady

Have you thought of a garden sized Poly tunnel - no glass. Mine is 10 x 12 and tucked away in a corner which is very sheltered and I have trellis in front which in summer is covered by climbers. My OH got fed up with tripping up over seed trays very quickly.

Evening P.L. If you insulate your greenhouse with bubble you will dramatically cut down your heating costs. Use the large bubble type rather than the small, also, leave it up all year because in summer it will act as shading for your plants. David.

    Hi David,
It`s a trade off in reality.
Less light but more insulation in winter.
For shading you`d be better off with shade cloth as it doesn`t have any insulation value which will slow the heatloss from the greenhouse.

That's my trick, I've got pots and propogators on every shelf, all around hubbies office/PC desk.......hopefully he'll agree to me needing a polytunnel.....
