I laid new turf last wednesday and it seems to be doing well so far - greening up, knitting together and to the ground beneath. I could do with cutting my borders out so i can get planting - can i do that now or do i have to wait until its totally established? I have quite a number of bedding plants i'd like to get in the ground.

I don't see why you can't do it now if you stand on planks of wood on the turf to distribute the weight. I wouldn't want to stand directly on the turf - but I don't know why - I'm just cautious.

Thank you Peter! I have cut my borders and i'm very pleased with them! All my planting out will be done tomorrow and i'm rather looking forward to it!! My turf is doing really well after 10 days - its looking more green and knitting together nicely!

Don't forget to keep watering it in this warm weather. Shame you had to cut into new turf, but I know it's not always easy to figure out where you want your borders at the time. I laid new turf 2 years ago...and now there is probably only half of it left, the rest has been dug up, as my borders encroach into what is laughingly called a lawn!

    Happy planting :)

Hmmm... sounds just like my mum's garden. She has a 'lawn' like that.
