Spider invasion!

Hi all,

Hopefully you can help me! I have a small city garden but is literally invaded with spiders! I'm not being paranoid here, they are crawling everywhere. They don't form webs, they live on the ground and there are thousands of them(problably more actually!). Now, I come from the countryside and I have seen spiders in the past, never EVER that many though! I know they are supposed to be the gardeners friends, but I need to get rid of them somehow. Can anyone help me? I have a baby and I can't possibly let her go and crawl on a bed of spiders!

Oh dear God - can't stand spiders!
I've never even thought about this sort of thing happening (only in nightmares) and I can't think of any reason off the top of my head why this could be happening. I'll have a think about it though, and I wish you the best of luck!

 

It's that time of year when baby things hatch, including spiders.They get away from where they were born (to lessen competition for food) by attaching their silk to something and flying off in the wind so they are trying to leave. If you really can't wait for them to go on theur own and you're not supperstious(it's supposed to be unlucky to kill a spider) borrow or hire a garden vac and hoover them up.

Thanks for your replies! They may be baby ones although I'm not sure... We had them last summer too, all summer. I didn't mind so much as my little one wasn't on the floor and I was OK on the patio! This year, she's investigating everything, and I'm not keen on seeing her in the middle of spiders!
We have no spiders on webs, they don't look like the type either and they stay with us which is the annoying bit. I could try the hoovering, I'll try anything to be honest! Can we hire garden hoovers? If so, where from, I don't know anybody with one?

Don't empty them out in your bin though - they'll just get back out again!!!

Does anyone know if electronic device for pest control work for spiders (outside the house)?

 

Revin that's as bad as killing them lol...I put them in my greenhouse, they eat all the Aphids ...don't do any harm.....if in home, I just hoover them up. lol

 

I think it would kill them as most garden hoovers are also shredders, which is why I said about not being superstious. I don't mind them myself but I don't have to worry about my child eating them.
