    Hack it anywhere? :D :D

Well I would gently cut the lower branches away all round to keep it balanced and to clear the lawnmower as necessary. Trying not to damage the plant at a higher level so that there will still be flowers on it later, (to please Mrs.masterofinsanity!) ;)

    Hope that helps.

back to this topic, i didn't get round to pruning it so looking for more advice, this thread suggests several options and times to prune, so does it really matter when i do it?

    To be blunt: No.

They are tough as anything, and it doesn't really matter where you cut them either, they will get on with it. Just go have some fun!

If you want to take cuttings it's a bit late in the year although you can try by just cutting a few branches with the secateurs to see if the stems are still green - if so then just push the spade into a spare piece of ground and heel in a few. You can't do much harm whatever but if the branches have died back then just leave alone til springtime and then do what others have said

I never prune fuchsia other than a bit of tidying up, at this time of year, the twigs protect the crown from the worst of the frost and ice. I wait til usually about April, and then cut them down to ground level.

I have several Fuschia's in 10" pots (supermarket black flower buckets, 99p for 8 from Morrisons). I took these into the greenhouse a few weeks ago. I cut off lead shoots with about 4 or 5 pairs of leaves, stripped off the bottom 2 pairs, dipped in hormone rooting powder and planted in 50/50 compost/sharp sand in seed trays. I now have nearly 90 rooted cuttings. Some even have flower buds on as well as new leaves.

I never use rooting powder when I root my fuchsias and normaly a success.Good to multi pot fuchsia tip cuttings, leave them ant repot to next size pot as roots begin to show beneath pot .

Keep doing this until required size pot needed and you will be amazed by the wonderful display you will get.

I would NEVER prune my fuchsias in the winter as this protects plant from all frost.

Always wait until all frosts are past and never hack at your fuchsias prune theTLC easy to do this prune back where you can see start of young new growths.
I would normally prune my hardy fuchsia around end of march beging of April when all frosts are past.

    Good Luck
