cats

hi all
i`m sure this topic has been covered before,but what is everybodies tried and tested method for keeping cats from using the garden for their personal toilet :eek:

 

Pam. Oh boy has it been covered I suggest you click on 'Search', type in 'cats' and search General Gardening discussion for the, literally, dozens of times it has been covered.

 

Whooops Pam don't go there this is dangerous talk! :eek:

Seriously though if you need any help regarding how to keep cats off your plot just PM me and I'll tell you all that I have tried and there is an awful of things to try so don't despair. Hel.xxx.

Pam. The category you search is important. It defaults to 'New Members' so I suspect you aren't changing the category to 'General Garden'.

Here we go again. :D I bought a sonic cat scarer at Wilko's for �£20 two weeks ago. The cats come and sit round it. Where did you get it Pal?

 

John I know several people that have bought those sonic cat scarers and have said they are useless.I reckon you ought to take it back and complain and get your money back :D

 

Seems we still cant have a joke on here, some oversensetive person deleated my origional joking reply.

 

I disagree the cat scarers work well for me at least now I have put some charge in the batteries!

Pam you can use a number of things before you fork out big bucks so to speak.

Random sticks placed in your soil (worked a little for me),
tea bags soaked with deep heat (didn't work),
citrus peel (didn't work),
Cat repellent pellets (didn't work),
Berberis cuttings now these did work really well until the cats got a knack of moving the cuttings to one side...I kid you not!

In the end I brought a a sonic cat scarer off eBay it worked so well that I brought two more all are working fine and it's very rare a cat tries to poop on my plot now......but then again next door seems to have got rid of her four cats in favour of a dog now so that could have helped as well! Hel.xxx

I have had a terrible time in the passed with cats.
Tried everything.
Spent loads.

Since using a combination of moth balls and the sonic the killer nuisance cat as not been seen.
Result!

It's not so much just the poop as if thats not bad enough.
The cat in question tried to kill my fish and kills the birds .
Taking the baby Wrens from it's nest last year.
I used to find bits of birds all over my garden.
It kept us awake at night and was just a nuisance.
Digging in the flowers and leaving it's mess.
Hope thats the last of it.

I got some re-chargable batteries as you suggested, so to keep it in full use.

 

We don't have a cat problem where we are now, but in the past I've used a pump action water pistol. If you can catch them as they are about to perform it does seem to scare them off. Might need a few reminders.

I also used a plant called the 'Scaredy Cat Plant' to deter the rabbits from my roses a few years ago. As it's called Scaredy Cat, I assume it also works with cats! I don't know if it would be of value if you're looking at a wide area, since you probably wouldn't want a garden full of it! It's a Coleus (Coleus canina), and has very pretty purple flowers that gardening articles often don't mention.
