My gardening season started to-day

I hadn't planned to start today, but the post bought 20 packets of seed from the RHS seed scheme this morning. Asphodelus, Asclepias, Anthricus, Anthericum, Amsonia etc. All totally new to me.

Then I went out and was passing Wilkinsons, so I couldn't resist just walking through their gardening section. They had seed packets from 34p and were doing a buy one get one free. Well I couldn't resist that - so I got a Cerinthe and some other packets (all costing more than 34p - but the 2 for 1 was good). And the Dahlias were cheap!

Once you start to binge you can't stop. So I called in at a good garden centre, Smiths of Otley, on the way back; and there, were all the summer plugs already available. Plugs really are remarkably good value compared to a single large plant. I was very good and restricted myself to a single small pot with about 30 Lupin seedlings for �£2.99, as nearly all the ones I sowed in pots last August have disappeared. It won't be long though, before there I am back there in a more serious buying mode.

 

Ive barred myself from the right hand side of our local Wilkinsons where all the gardening paraphonalia is for another two Tuesdays.Its hard but if i let myself be drawn anywhere near,i`ll stand half the day deciding and will probably find half of what i`ve bought in a draw somewhere this time next year.

 

I've done quite well this year - haven't bought much at all - but that's only because I have far too much from last year! :rolleyes: As Blackthorn said at one point "seeds are rather addictive" - too true!

 

Hit Wilkinsons a couple of weeks ago spent a load on garden sundries very good value some of the big pots were on buy one get one free I fell for the cerinthe seeds as well Peter

 

My gardening season never stops !

There's always something nagging for my attention !

All seeds were purchased by end of last week, and pots. order goes out to dobies next week.

Then I can really get cracking !

Looking at last year's photos I see that I am behind schedule.

The daturas I planted out were already seedlings by this date.

Guess what I'll be doing this weekend. I have also been sent some great hardy hibiscus seeds including Texas Star that I've been seeking for years, so hopefully this will be the year of the hibiscus in my garden.

 

Free Seeds. Just caught this snippet in the Gardening section of the Telegraph.
