I've just completed a new corner of the garden ready for planting up. I would like to buy a hardy and vigorous climbing rose to cover an arbour and trellis and would welcome recommendations from members and pictures of their roses in bloom.
I have an Albertine Rose on the other side of the archway so I'm looking for a rose that would look good beside it.

Hi Petal at our old house we had a wonderful
climber called 'Golden Showers'it has smashing yellow flowers and truely looks stunning growing through trellis work.

Just brought another one and can't wait until it grows up the trellis work. [IMG]

Hi there. Me and my other half went to Barnsdale some years ago(Geoff Hamilton`s garden)and there was a fantastic rose growing over an archway in the `cottage` garden called(funnily enough)Scarlet Showers. We bought one and planted it against a square archway that I constructed. For years it gave us a great show, masses of blooms. It looked SO good that I would often get comments from the neighbours. Unfortunately I didn`t prune it properly(just cut it back when it looked like it needed it),so now it isn`t so good. So, all you need to decide is which colour you want [IMG]

Hi Petal, Ena Harkness is a good, reliable, red rose which is also highly scented. David.

What colour is your Albertine rose petal?

I have an archway and I'm growing
David Austin "Falstaff" on both sides which is a gorgeous deep red and very fragrant. Hopefully they will eventually meet at the top

Thanks for your replies - I should have mentioned colour. Albertine is pinky peach and scented like apples. I'll see if I can find a picture of it to post.

Hi, just wanted to put right a mistake. I think it`s `Crimson Showers` and not `Scarlet Showers` as previously stated. Cheers...freddy.

petal, have you thought of putting another Albertine rose on the other side of the arbour as it is a lovely rose; sometimes it's best not to mix things as the beauty may be taken away from your original planting...

    Only my opinion :D

I bought a rose over the weekend. No recommendation just inspired by the label i.e. scented and free flowering. Pink and gorgeous. I'll await with anticipation to see if the description is accurate.
Name of rose COMPASSION - anyone got one?

[IMG] Hi Petal .....you have chosen well........I have had one for years and it never lets you down, flowers prolificly, disease resistant,fragrant.....I have a blue Clematis growing through it as well.
What I would call a "good doer"

That is lovely roders, funny that you should have a clematis growing with your rose because I do too!! Mines a purple alpini (think) and it works well growing through my red rose.
