    Hi all,

How do you take buddlia cuttings? I like some for our garden, and would like to take a cutting rather than buy a plant.

How do I do this? If you could explain in simple terms as I'm a novice gardener!

    Many thanks!

They are fairly easy. Find a shoot with no flowers on it. Cut off the tip at abut 6 to 9 inches long with say 3 sets of leaves. Find 5 or 6 of them. Then cut again just (like 1mm. to mix my measurements) below a leaf joint. Remove all but the top bunch of leaves and the first pair down from them. Insert the cuttings in a plant pot of potting/cutting compost, round the edge (ish) to about half their length (or down to where the next pair of leaves emerged from the stems before you removed them!). Water and cover the whole pot in a plastic bag and seal. Put somewhere out of direct sunlight and not too hot. Hopefully they will root within a few weeks. Open the bag and let in fresh air every day. That's about it really.
