    hi -
i took on an allotment in october 04 by calling the local parish council office and putting my name on a 'waiting list' about june last year. the allotment year usually runs from 01 october - at this time rent for the coming year is due and all tenants are contacted for payment. some opt out, some are asked to give up their plots that have not been tended for some time and have become overgrown - these plots are then offered to people on the waiting list. preference is given to residents of the parish.

if your village does not currently have an allotment site you only need to write to your local council, along with support from 6 other villagers that also wish to have an allotment and in accordance with the allotments act they should find provision of land to supply you, and any others with the plots!
hope this helps - let us know how you get on
    good luck!!
