    HELLO EVERY-ONE
COULD ANY ONE TELL ME IF THERE WOULD BE ANY BENEFIT FROM FILLING MY WATERBUTT STRAIGHT FROM THE TAP AND LEAVING FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS THEN USING THE WATER FROM THE BUTT RATHER THAN USING ATER STRAIGHT FROM THE TAP

    hi there!
no need to shout by the way!

as far as i'm aware the chlorine in the tap water will settle out if left for a while.
I can't imagine that it would do any harm to leave it in a butt though.
Please don't take my advice on this alone though, someone will be along shortly to advise properly!

    welcome to gardeners' corner!

Yes I agree thats the way to do it if you are worried about tap water chemicals

A tip Marlovian if you are fairly new to forums or mailing...when typing in capitals its sometimes considered as shouting

and a smiley face [IMG] see instant gremlins link on the left when typing, means a bit of fun or a laugh [IMG]

We do that with our drinking water here. On some occasions, the water board drops ni big chlorine tablets and it tastes disgusting, so I fill bottles, leave them for the night, then chill them. Much nicer and it works a treat.

I fill our water butt when I know we won't have rain, as it is a bit of a chore keep filling up the watering can from the tap (I do have an outside tap, but it's quicker from the butt ;) ).

    Welcome to the board.

    Nathan.

I do the same thing Nathan

I like the look on my neighbours face when their butts are empty and my magical rainwater lasts for ever :D

It also allows the water to warm up a bit in the summer, cant stand cold water.
