Pete - I have just got back on line since my computer has been cleared and re-booted (took 2 days and cost £90) and I was more than a little worried when I heard this noise!!!

Glad there is an explanation but it is *** rather annoying isn't it? [IMG]

Actually Pete (Oh dear we are agreeing again)) it's more than a stunt. It's a half lie. The common view of free range is of happy chickens running round huge fields. Not so. The legal definition of a 'free range' chicken is one that is let out of its cage for one hour a day and has access to one square foot of space to peck.

We've been inundated with propaganda from the battery lot. This is not much better.

Oh. And if you are still stuck with it: http://www.gardenerscorner.co.uk/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=003560;p=1#000002

I have signed up (yes, agree it would make sense if the noise stopped once you've signed) was number 74999!

I don't eat meat, so don't buy chickens, thus not contributing in any way to their suffering. However, as a realist, I acknowledge that my teeny weeny action won't save the flock - so signed in support of free range over enclosed farming - if there has to be a horrible industry in the frst place, I believe this is the better of the two evils.

Battery hens are egg layers - this free range campaign relates to meat chickens.

Sign up and turn the sound down - it's not really that inconvenient. ;)

I use the term battery losely, to cover all poutry that is crammed in sheds and force fed.
Is it any worse than sheep being transported all the way to Greece, (example) and then after a bit of feeding having their throats cut and left to bleed to death in someones back yard.
Or the thousands of pigs and sheep HUMANELY slaughtered every day.
Its MODERN farming, it stinks, but if you eat meat, (and I eat some) you cant complain, there are, as I always say, far too many people in the world and they all want to eat, fact.

You don't have to turn the sound down. Just disable Flash Player. So easy.

Yes. David. Then there's the non-scientific approach. Hell I've been using it in gardening for years.

Nathan, there is not silence. It sounds as if someone is flushing the toilet. Everytime the counter moves.

    David,

Hmmm, I don't seem to be able to hear it [IMG] .

I am not sure whether anyone knows this, but if you go to the bottom right of the screen (on XP and Vista anyway) right click Volume Mixer, and you can disable/turn down/up the volume for specific windows that are open. I use this function a lot, because if you want to listen to music, but do not want sounds from websites etc in the background, you mute them. ;)
