what is the most economical easily removeable means of shading a greenhouse from the sun. Last years crop of tomatoes were badly affected by the sun and as I am on a low fixed income cost is important.

My thanks to anyone who can help

Hi Teajay, well There are several,1.white powder
that you mixup with water,Called White Washes.
    Very economical.
2.I have recycled some old blinds from a neighbor
Who was going to throw them away, and put them up when needed on the outside.
3.I do a lot of recycling what others throw away,
    ie curtains ,netting,ect.
My personal preference is No1.goodluck. [IMG]

Thanks to wiseoldowl, No 1 seems to be the most suitable for me, what is the trade neme of this white washes and where obtainable ??

Thanks also to Kathy 3, Your idea could be a good alternative but immobility and opening vents would need to be overcome.sun sied if greenhouse is on a 4foot drop making difficulties placing on that side of roof, however many thanks to both of you

    teajay.

    Hi Teajay

WOO's suggestion of the coolglass is excellent. I used this last year, and the packet I got from B&Q cost next to nothing. You paint in on the outside (but if access id difficult, you can put it on the insdie too), and it brushes off at the end of the summer with an old cloth or brush... but if it is on the outside, it won't wash off in the rain!!! I was staggered at how much difference it made. It kept everything hot, but the harshness of the sun wasn't there to scortch my tomatoes!!!!

[IMG] Hi TeeJay, Cool glass is the cheapest I know of & is efficient as Honeybee says.. I have blinds in the other green house & find they are as good as each other really.. I use coolglass for the ends & it works well.. [IMG]
