Has anyone any thoughts as to why my mint plant has died. I bought a very healthy cutting, planted it in a large container outside with organic compost and fertilizer just a week ago and now its almost dead.
My oregano plant is not looking too healthy either!

Is it the cats that frequent my garden getting up to no good?

Thanks from a very inexperienced gardener

Had your cutting got a good root ball on it when you took it out of the pot, because if it wasn't yet big enough to plant out, then stress may have killed it,though not having a big enough root system to sustain it wouldn't help or as you say, it might be cats peeing on it.The container may have been too large for it.

Usually, once you have got mint in the garden, it is there to stay, though I did read some time ago that if it is grown in a pot and not renewed each year, then it has a tendencey to die off.

If you put it in too hot a posistion straight away, that may have killed it off.

If you can salvage any of it take a cutting and pop it into a glass jar of water, to see if that will root.
If it does, then make sure it has a good root system before trying again.

Sorry, I have never grown Oregano, so cannot help you there.

    Good Luck

I think I planted the moroccan mint and oregano in large pots.
The roots were ample and healthy.
I will take your advice and will try and salvage whats left.

    Thank You

Once you've salvaged what you can - instead of planting it in compost - fill a small pot with ordinary soil from the ground, the sandier the better - dampen it and then plant it. In my experience mint, marjoram, oregano like a lot of herbs do better in soil without the addition of nutrients. Don't transplant it until its really tight in the pot
