When does Autumn officially start does anyone know?
It certainly seems Autumny already to me but then I am a wimp ;)
I want to get on with Autumny jobs in the garden.

I always thought Autumn was early Oct.

But today it certainly does feel Autumn in my garden and such a cool air.

Collection of leaves starting to fall.

Autumn is Sept Oct Nov. Winter is Dec Jan Feb. Spring is March April May. And summer is June July Aug. But lots of plants flower well into the autumn if its not too cold.

The official start of Autumn is the autumn equinox. Sept. 21st.

My own view is that it starts on the last night of the proms. (Anytime now). But that is round here.

For the gardener, autumn starts when the weather feels autumny (or is that autumnish?)

If leaves are falling Scotkat then, where you are, it is autumn. Maybe our American cousins have it right by calling it Fall. Sad isn't it. :(

If autumn starts when it feels like it, then it started in June this year. :D
Autumn used to start on the 21st Sept, but now it seems to be 1st Sept. I blame the EEC.
Seriously, I think the leaves are falling earlier this year, (strange, we cant blame the dry summer can we), I think its due to low light levels.
Has anyone noticed how the leaves stay longer on trees near street lamps.

I think it started last week when I had to put the electric blanket back on the bed and started thinking about Christmas presents.

Did we have a summer then   I must have overslept that day.

Summer was in April, as I recall. Autumn starts when you can see the "Seven Sisters" at 2300hrs. With the cloud cover we've been having, it'll never arrive. :D

It started this morning when I had to use wipers to clear the dew off the windscreen. I haven't looked at the max-min thermometer yet but it wasn't that warm overnight. Who's going to blink first and take their precious soft plants indoors?

Good news everyone. The kids here went back to school today. So we have had (for the first time since April) 78 in the shade. My sarracenias are suddenly visibly growing. Is there a quiet corner of this site where I can have a nervous breakdown?

Dai. My grandfather was Welsh and he used to like to put the mockers on things as well. 'Autumnal'. Only Dylan Thomas would use a word like that. 'The Autumnal rollings of the dark dark night' or similar. Sorry I have a very Welsh S.O.H. :D
