daffodils

    Happy easter to all I have lots of daffodils and need to dead head them ......do I just remove the flower or the entire bulb with the flower head and how can I tidy the long leaves from falling all over the wet soil thanks for any help [​IMG] poppy

    Hi
    Just remove the flowers. You need to leave the leaves for at least 6 weeks so that they can make enough food for the bulb to flower next year, after this you can cut them down to the base. Don't tie the leaves up either, this restricts photosynthesis & transport of nutrients, & causes the leaves to die back early. They make good shelter plants for annuals planted near the base. If you want to move the bulbs, you'd could do it now, but you would probably lose flowers next year, I do it after the leaves have died back. Try digging up & putting in pots, & leaving the leaves on as above, if you can't wait. Happy gardening [​IMG]

    I could be getting this wrong but, when you say bulb do you mean the seed pod behind the flower?

    Hi pete yes I did. did not know what else to call it but have got info from you and Bayleaf and I do realy appresiate both your advice. its great to know that there are gardeners like your selfs who are willing to help poppy
