I am moving at the end of may and would like to take some of the daffodils from my garden with me. Can I lift them and store them to plant again? If so when can I lift them and when should I re-plant them? Are all spring flowering bulbs the same? I know I can move snowdrops in the green.

Potty, if you dig them up with a good rootball and put them in pots, you shoulde be fine. Another thought, Daff bulbs are cheap enough to buy nowadays. [IMG] :D

Thanks daitheplant, but I have so many plants to transport in pots I was trying to save some space. I am borrowing a dutch trolley from the nursery where I used to work and lots of trays and litterally dig the plants water them well and carry them in the trays it will save so much space . I had to have three trollies when i moved last time and half a lorry!!

If you leave the leaves to die down to just before you leave then lift the bulbs and dry off for a few days and then store in a box of sawdust or vermiculite until ready for planting in the autumn. They should then get away o.k.

    Hope that this helps.

Hi Potty Potter been there done that...know what you are going through so very hectic!

I had the good fortune of knowing a year or so in advance on our move so dug up or took cuttings of all the plants I wanted to take with me and it's a good job I did as our new house only had Lily of the valley, oxalis and daffs almost all three were like weeds in the garden!

Take what you want as it will be a good start to your new plot. I wish you well with your move.Hel.xxx.
