Hi folks. I`m looking for a Dahlia called `Match`. I`ve tried looking but can`t seem to find it. It`s a cactus or semi-cactus(not sure which). Any help finding this would be appreciated. Cheers...freddy.

Hi folks. I have managed to source and plant the said Dahlias. I believe the next step is to take out the growing tip and allow side shoots to develop . I don`t want specimen blooms, but at least a reasonable size. So, my question is, how many side shoots should I allow to grow on ? Cheers...freddy.

Hi Freddy. I am delighted you have found what you wanted. I don't know much about Dahlias - but mine have increased over the years. I don't bother about pinching out. Its all going to die down over the winter and start again next year. I would consider this year one for building up the plant's strength which should transfer in healthy tubers. Tubers can then be divided in the spring (or you could take cuttings) - but you must take some of the woody crown with them - a tuber on its own will not sprout, as its a swollen root. It is not the same as a potatoe, which will sprout on its own, as it is a swollen stem rather than a root and consequently has growing points.

Hi 02. I'm looking forward to next year because THEN I can propagate and also pinch out and stop the side-shoots making for better blooms. I'm following PeterS's advice and just letting them do what they want for this year. We have a few in a vase and I MUST say they really look good, very cheerful. Cheers...freddy.

    hi freddy
i love that dahlia.i do prefer the cactus type ,i bought a bishop of llandaff for personal reasons ,and a pack with 3 cactus tubers in and started them off in a pot together, the yellow 1 has never had more than 2 flowers at a time ,the purple one has single flowers, and the red one just erupted in a mass of booms and they seem to last as i have only removed 3/4 dead heads [IMG]

and as you can see by the nibbled leaves i have done very little to them

Hi folks. The Dahlias are still flowering well, but I've noticed that some of the blooms are now looking a bit 'washed out'. Is there something I should have done (or can do at this time) to avert this ? Cheers...freddy.
