Great book from the library is called something like 'right plant right place' it suggests plants that would thrive in different conditions

Many herbaceous geraniums are excellent in damp shade, in particular Geranium endressii Wargrave Pink makes tough free-flowering dense green mound & partly evergreen (in London). The following also work reliably for me (same conditions) ââ?¬â?? Epimediums, Hellebores, Anemone japonica (eg Honorine Jobert, Hadspen Abundance), Acanthus spinosus, Echinops ritro, Iris pseudacorus varigata, Bluebells,ââ?¬Â¦ also as mentioned above Hostas, but they need constant slug control. Clematis on fences, eg Perle du Azur, Mme Julia Correvon, spring flowering alpina & macropetalla hybrids, and even summer flowering texenis hybrids (esp. the wonderful Gravetye Beauty).

I have a damp corner at the bottom of my veg patch. I put a few pieces of wood there a few years ago. Now I regularly see frogs when Im clearing around there. It is said that frogs like slugs. I dont know if this is true but the damp area has brought something into my garden that I enjoy seeing from time to time.

Frogs and toads are great for slugs, I alway find them around my containers and they are very welcome. They come from my neighbours pond - I just have to be a bit careful when digging.
