I have just potted up some Petunia plugs, many of which had two plants to a plug. Being mean, last year I prized them apart to get double the number of plants, but had to throw a lot away as I eventually had too many.

This time I have planted them as is. The question is, is is better to snip one off to have just one strong plant, or will they be happy two to a bed.

    Hi Peter,

Why don't you plant some as two and split others - and see what grows / looks better?

    Let us know!

I cheat with my Petunias and buy "our very best" selection from Homebase when they are tiny green things(I normally never buy bedding plants from places like that but this particular selection come come out so well and last all summer into early autumn!) [IMG]

Yes Gilly - you are absolutely right - I should be scientific about it. Some naturally have only one in them, so I will go this minute and seperate those out and follow their progress.

Mine were bought as plugs. I tried growing them from seed one year - but plugs are so much easier.

So you wouldn't fancy sowing 10,000 petunia seeds then Peter? Wish me luck then, that'll be after the 23,000 marigolds! Don't you just love pricking out, will post some pics later in the season. [IMG]

Strongy, I would never get to sleep at night - I would still be counting. The seed must cost a bit - about 4 years ago I bought a packet of Petunias (mind you they were Surfinias) it cost about £4 and had 8 seeds in it. Why are Surfinias so much more expensive than the normal?
