BTW - just to round things off - vis a vis the collar issue - when I got Oscar (the white cat) from the pet rescue centre they made my new ownership conditional that he would always wear a collar with an id tag on it. Now I don't like collars on cats (both mine are chipped) but complied as I am basically an obliging type of bod. But Oscar hadn't been party to this agreement and it took him all of 48 hrs to lose it! And I swear he looked smug when he came back sans collar!!

Won't say welcome, danielwilliams_2007, because you haven't obviously read this thread ...

We're cat lovers here, except for the few ... you guys are outnumbered and cats can be vicious ...

    Enjoy the site, though!

Having dug out an area 10 feet by six feet and replaced the top soil with a 50:50 mix of topsoil and grit for a sempervivum bed, I was not happy that all the neighbourhood cats used it for a loo. They scratched all the semps together and completely buried some.

I placed tennis balls on canes and slung a net over the whole thing to keep them off. It worked, except in protest they now poo on the lawn surrounding the bed.

The question remains - why should people who obect to cats in their gardens have to PAY to keep their gardens free of pests owned by other people?

Sorry to keep this thread up there, I started reading it to see if any cat lovers have come up with any good ideas to help other gardeners.

I keep chicken and fish in my garden and last year lost all my new chicks to local cats, very sad to see when me and my children watched them come out of the egg, name them take care of them and watch them grow :( only to find their limp little bodies battered to death by the neighbours cat for fun?

I have also lost some of my best fish, one that was won at the fair 15 years ago and set free in our pond only to be clawed out chewed a bit and left to gasp to death on the lawn :(

I used to have 3 cats that I loved very much but I would never keep them again, I didn't realise back then how selfish I was being allowing them to do whats natural. Many cat owners round here don't care a bit they get them as cute little kittens then turn them out once they are grown.

I have tried every thing to protect my own pets at the moment its 2 foot of unsightly chicken wire on top of my fences, the cats soon bend this down so in places I have put gripper rod on top of the wooden fence, it seems to be working. I'm sure someone will tell me thats cruel but I don't think its as cruel as watching my pets get killed :(
