I purchased a packet of seeds from the 99p store, and in it was 5 different herbs, dill, sage, basil, thyme and marjoram.

They were sown in an old butler sink, reusing soil, the dill and sage germinated fine, the marjoram has yet to appear, and the basil looks the same as thyme.

Here are some pictures of what I presume now are basil plants, I assume the thyme seeds were not labeled correctly.

The basil does not smell like basil yet? Should it, please tell me I have healthy crop of basil plants and am not just cultivating weeds!!!

I will try that later when I am able to but as far as looks go, it's ticking all the boxes, basil has quite a strong smell doesn't it, the sage is already quite pungent. and it is half the size of the basil?

At what point does basil start smelling?

not sure when it starts giving off strong aroma, but if you rub the leaves you can get the smell that way. mine are not as big as yours and dont smell strong unless i rub the leaves.
