I have several pots of different varieties of acer. They were planted out early this year. Many don't appear to have put on much growth. They have had some slow release pellet fertilizer, plus some water retaining crystals, as I am often away for a few days. The soil used was ericacious.

Would it be worthwhile, or wise, to prune them a little at the end of the season when they will be losing their leaves?

Acers are very slow growing theres no need to prune them, just let them do their thing.

Thanks Tropical. As they are still small I will take your advice and leave them.

    Yes I agree with Tropical
Don't prune Japanese maples unless there is a purpose ........
They will put on growth when the root system gets settled [IMG]
