Hi potash, I have not heard of this. The Phoeniceum species of Verbascum are perennials grown easily from seed and 'vulgare' usually means 'wild' form, however the common mullein is called Verbascum Thapsus, a large hairy leaved (like velvet) plant with huge stalks of yellow flowers. They self-seed prolifically.
Sorry I can't be of more help to you. Perhaps someone else can enlighten us. [IMG]

I have some of them growing at the moment - sown at the end of last week, up yesterday - loads and loads of them!

I had them in a seed tray, in a plastic bag, near a south facing window, and it's been fairly sunny this week, which might have speeded them up, but judging how fast you get lots of verbascums in your garden once you have a few, I'd sau they're pretty easy to get going normally!

I don't know of any small ones - they're all pretty tall plants, along the lines of foxgloves - but, as Blackthorn says, they're mullein in the wild - a different genus.
