I've heard people get quite attached to them. Over in the compost forum, there was someone who left it in the kitchen on the first night (like adviced) and they all escaped during the night :( They came down to a kitchen floor of dead worms, they rise when the pressures high as its a sign of rain coming.

They say once you go worm you never go back!

Seriously though, if you put the time in a wormery can be great, you'll wonder how you got by without it.

I have two now as have got the hang of converting a wheelie bin and so halved them as they were getting out of control. I love them I dont know why - I woudl keep them even if they didnt make good compost. I spent the first two years worrying about them if they were unhappy because that is also why they come to the top of the bin, if hte ocnditions arent right and its hard to second guess a worm - now they have overwintered for lots of years and I put them in the gararge to be warmer in winter as we have some nasty cold westerlies here on this cliff edge.

They came with lots of instructions about what they like and dont like to eat but I have found that they eat almost everything becasue soem escaped into my other ocmpost bins where I was putting everything they dodnt liek adn a huge colony formed in what was supposed to be really adverse conditions.
