Does anyone have a solution to the hidden bulb trap? How do you stop yourself planting something on the same spot as bulbs? I thought I would solve the problem by putting in bedding plants, but the trouble is when ever I go to the garden centre, I see something that I absolutely fall in love with and then need to find a gap for it where it will be happy. Next spring, I find that bulbs are coming up through my new plant, which really annoys me. I have tried lifting bulbs after they have flowered but they seem to dry up or become soft. All handy hints appreciated!

You could try planting a perenial that dies down when the bulbs are in flower at the same time as you plant the bulbs close enough that you wouldn't be able to plant any thing else there or mulching over the top with aslightly different mulch,or take lots of photos of your garden at all times of the year and be very disciplined about lookin at the photos before planting or even make out a planting plan of whats where none of this of course stops me from doing exactly the same thing.

I was going to say, Revin that discipline the the key word I have trouble with & when I read further down you post, I see that you also do the same thing. Obviously keen gardeners are alll the same, we just can't resist a stunning plant!
