    hi daniel,
That's a nice garden. Not a mess, but an easy canvas to begin work on.
The most important thing you need to decide on first, is what do you want from your garden? and build on that.
From your profile, you like veg and water, so you could do a formal pond with raised veg beds around. Or just incorporate veg and flowers in borders.
Keep us informed of yur decisions and progression.

I'd suggest making a list of things you want in your garden first, then looking at the garden, and deciding what you want to keep and what you want to get rid of, whether struxtures, or plants, or grassed areas.

Decide whether you want privacy, or open-ness, and practical things, like where the washing is going to hang, and how close the compost bin is going to need to be, if you have one at all, that is! and all that sort of stuff.

Then play around with ideas, and maybe even draw a sketch of the perimeter, with little templates to represent all the bits you want, and try them out in different places.

Once you know what you want, then it'll be easier for us to advise you on how to achieve it!

This is what I do, and I plan gadens quite a lot!

I would go with dendrobium's idea and play around on a piece of paper.

What type of plants you would like, focal points. The first thing I would do is find out what type of soil you have i.e acidic, alkaline etc.

But most of all have fun doing it.

I started with more than a blank canvas, if that is possible (and I'm a painter, I won't be so bold as to say an artist).

As dendo said and Jimbo agrees, I did start with pencil and paper and anyone can see from my Casadinho site how it progressed.

Oh, BM Babe, what a lovely reminder again of your garden ... I was the year before you with "nothingness" but for the UK you have created a perfect sanctuary of heavenly things all Med ... better than I can here ... [IMG]

PS Love the hose in the pic ... :D :D How is it we manage to do that every time?

Hi there and welcome. You are lucky to have a relatively blank canvas. I'm with Dendy on this - you need to work out what you want from your garden before you start. To that I would add - take a trip to your local garden centre and browse the books of garden styles.

It could be rather than a veggie patch, you may like to grow your vegs in a more potager style. The more pictures you see, the more what you want from your garden will become clear. Then pen to paper to set out the framework for what you want.

I so want your garden BM. Why is it you work all day on someone elses garden and get home to work on your own and your mind goes blank.

Too eager to snap away and show off I guess! :D

Maybe I should post it in creative art and get someone to remove it for me.

I have loads of photos of other peoples gardens that I have transformed over the last couple of years, including my partners garden that I have done front and back but my own garden at my own house remains a blank canvas as I can never make up my mind how to do it I draw lots of plans on paper including all of my "wish list"plants and features and then I go somewhere or look on here and I change my mind yet again!!! I never have that trouble with clients. Dendy and BM you are an inspiration to us all and your gardens are lovely. And if I ever work out how to put photos on here I will show you some of the work I have done.
And hopefully one day I wil be able to put up photos of my own garden too.
In a funny way though I feel that even my clients gardens are part mine too does anybody else feel like that?
I planted about ten thousand bulbs this autumn, and its great going round all the gardens and seeing them all coming up very satisfying.

It looks like a garden with promise and flat too. Have a trip to the local library they will have books on garden design that you can get ideas from.
