My tulips

A few pictures of my tulips. They make me smile everytime I walk pass them. Hope you enjoy as well.

 

A glorious show, Chengjing! :gnthb: I just love the different colours and the various sorts.

I've never seen any like those ones with the fringed edges, are they a new sort.

We have never had much luck with tulips, they bloom nicely the first year and sometimes the second, and then, that is about it. We have left the bulbs alone and also tried taking them up after the green has dried. Do you have a special tip, please?

Thanks. They are beautiful indeed. It was first time I saw double fringed as well. I have grow single fringed a couple years ago. I got them from JParker.

Just like you, it is difficult to get tulips going for the 3rd year. With parrot and fringed tulips they also reverse to previous form. But I just adore them and I just can’t help to grow them. Every year I get a few new ones adding to the collection and every year I lose a few. For those that get too weak I put them into perennial border and some will come back.

Your tulips are absoluely beautiful, moreso to me as I can't grow them here successfully, just like my Sis (Kedi-Gato). I just love Parrot and Fringed ones ... lucky you and thank you for sharing them with those of us who can't appreciate their beauty in reality.

 

Those are all just gorgeous....tulips are my favorite flower...its just too bad that they dont last!!

 

Lovely display Chengjing.
I'm trying to build up my tulip display but they are quite short lived and I have to buy some new ones every year. They are always best in their first year.
Does anyone know how to make them go on longer ?

 

No idea on how to make them last longer, but i wish i knew!!

You probably will make them last longer by feeding them after flowers fade and lift them when all foliage died.

I understand if you cut off the flowering bud before it opens, the bulbs then will be stronger and you can enjoy the flowers the following year. (not really practical for home growing tho).

Sometime you can find real good bargin when shops start to sell off them, I got a faw packets for 50p each really good value.

 

What about species tulips - anyone.
In my last garden I grew tulipa tarda - little yellow tulips - which were great for years.
Any other suggestions ?
