Ceanothus cuttings

I would like to start taking cuttins from different shrubs. Any advice on ceanothus in particular please. :confused: In general is it better to take a cutting after flowering?

Hi Gillian, I'm not sure if I can really help but I would be interested to know how you get on with propogating a ceanothus. I have one that is not happy where I planted it and I know from experience that they do not like to be moved. My RHS book says that deciduous ceanothus can be propogated by rooting greenwood cuttings and evergreen varieties prefer semi ripe cuttings taking in mid-to late summer. I'm not sure how much help this is but I think the answer is don't do it just yet.

 

Yep I agree Celia. semi ripe cuttings in summer root really easily.
I have used in the past the new shoots that appear after cutting back, after flowering, just wait for them to harden up a bit.
