I planted a skimmia this year and it has been growing well and has just developed flowers. I went to look at it today and many of the leaves have turned yellow, though none have dropped off yet. Do you think it needs feeding or could Thursdays frost have got to it? Any suggestions as to how I can make it better?

Should be fine in cold - I have one in a container and it has survived frost, snow and ice for the last two years.

You don't say whether its in a container or in the ground - but if the leaves are yellowing on a new plant, then it sounds like a water problem - either too much or too little. As I recall, too, they don't like alkaline soils - but mine do OK in clay

Tell us a little more how its planted.

Hi Fran, it's planted in the ground in a raised bed. The soil isn't particularly good and doesn't retain moisture too well but everything else is growing really well. The nasturtiums are sending out shoots all over the garden, the magnolia is fine as is the other skimmia which is a male/female type. This has got me puzzled.
