Not really sure, when I'm not sure I plant some now and save some for the spring.
The ones I plant now I would put in a cold frame or cool greenhouse for the winter.

    Thanks, Pete.

    Could you also tell me:

i)how long it might take for the seeds to produce mature plants

ii)is it better to plant the corms instead - i.e will they produce quicker and stronger plants, and how long might they take?

iii)do you know when the corms would be planted?

    Thanks, Jez

Hi, As I have some 'lucifer' seeds as well, I tried googling for more info. The first site tells you how to treat the seeds, the second says that it is not worth the bother, as they probably won't come true to type. Most of the information I've found agrees with this; the plants generally increase by growing new corms, so you can split them. Several American sites complain that they are invasive- I wish mine would be.. still this is only their second year.

However it seems to be agreed that the only way to get new cultivars is by growing from seed, so if you're patient and inclined to experiment, try it!
