Being a relatively newcomer here can I ask who set it up and when? Who is behind it?
I got fed up with some of the forums that were commercial, particularly when it affected the discussions cause you could not offend the sponsors - like by mentioning the names of any of their competitors. I was active on some forums over the pond, but it got take over by something like iVillage and it went down the toilet pan...and they claimed copyright of our pictures. I put a rude note about that bit and can't log on anymore...funny that! This place seems quite friendly and its nice to see lots of Brits.

Good point there Geoff. Everybody should read the SMALL PRINT before putting any of their photos on any website. In law - the photographer retains copyright on his/her photos unless they sign it away. So easy to "sign it away" by simply registering with a forum or photo website. The clause that you don't read is hidden away in the small print and so you lose reproduction rights to your own photos.

There is no signing away of images on GC. Your Copyright remains.

I would advise that anyone really worried about the copyright of any image to add a copyright onto the image, this way it will be more difficult for someone to use the image.

    Hope this helps

    Nathan.

I was not suggesting that there was a copyright issue on GC. I was endorsing Geoff's point concerning other sites.

You are dead right Hornbeam. I was on another forum and they had a Gallery section. The originater of the forum was OK, your copyright ramained your own - it was there in the small print. BUT he sold it to iVillage and they decided to claim copyright of posters' pictures, without telling existing users. It was done on the sly. They were also claiming copyright of pictures on other sites if the pictures linked back to them and were claiming that they could use them for commercial purposes if they so wished.
No one, absolutely no one has claimed that this site is doing this.
