I think the 'Merry Xmas' smilie is something we could cheerfully lose - it's bad luck after Twelfth Night. Unless it's supposed to be ironic, John - ie 'you have no friends, your bank account is empty now your identity has been stolen and thanks for giving no thanks whatsover you stingy old *******&^%$'.

"Stack overflow at Line 97 " comes up at EVERY page change and you have to click OK before you can go further.

It's getting very annoying. (And it's very hard to get me annoyed.)

Yes, it is annoying. But I'm sure it'll be sorted soon.

Pete .. go into My Account and Edit Options and you can get rid of most of the 'crap'. I now don't have any friends or reputation ... :heehee: but I have myself (ie Avatar, Signature Line, how I like things to look) sorted. I also dislike the 'Freak' title ... but there we go off into the New World .....

It is annoying to constantly get this box message up everytime you do something about a fault on Line 219 I think mine is but I close it and ignore it and it goes away ...

PS I also want to say a big thank you to my dear friend Sussexgardener whom I e-mailed earlier because I was 'locked out' of the new system due to my name ..... he immediately got on the case and I am back again ... thank you Aaron xx ... and thank you Admin xx

That's the first Apology I've seen WOO - thanks for that, much appreciated (and as far as I know you aren't even "admin"?)

Sorry if I missed something, but all I remember seeing is lots of "Date of birth is fixed so no need to worry" and "All your Buddies have gone but it was time for a spring clean, so just create some more" ... odd way to run a railroad in my opinion.

I think it is strange because:

I think people will view the upgrade as unprofessional. They made become nervous about your holding of their data when things they have indicated are to be hidden then are shown (by accident)

A lot of data has been lost in the upgrade. That means that people have to spend time recreating their options, BIO, avatar etc. (To be honest I'm surprised that you have chosen to, or been advised to, change Forum software if that data could not easily be transferred to the new system). Some people may be annoyed by that.

Some types of inbound links don't work. Links from Google, Blogs and other sites (which I hope bring you useful traffic) will just get an error page. That is likely to damage your Google ranking and take (in my experience) 3 months before the broken links and ranking are all sorted out. Inbound links from weblogs etc will never be sorted out, so the only solution to those is to fix the problem and redirect incoming links on those URLs to the right place. The material still exists, it just needs what is called a "URL Rewriter" to convert the requests to the correct new location.

(I strongly advise your to check your web logs for 404 errors [those are where someone asks for a URL that could not be found on the new site] over the next few days and check what patterns are common, and then get those set up in the URL Rewriter)

The net effect for me is that pretty much all the links I have in my Favourites don't work.

My view just at the moment is that the place I entrust will storing all the gardening advice I have given over the years is not demonstrating good governance during this upgrade. I will list all the things I have found in a separate thread so you can consider which you are able, and want, to fix, and I will give you my thoughts about what I don't like (you can do with that whatever you like!, I'm only voicing an opinion)

I am happy to agree with you that the glass is half full on the new features that you plan. I don't know what they are, but I hope they help you develop the site and attract custom, and hopefully you can make some money too (I doubt it will be more than the considerable amount that this thing must cost you to run, but I for one will be happy if it does); if my small contribution can help make GC the best resource of its kind, and it becomes people's first choice from Google, then Hooray for you :)

EDIT: My posting with problems I have found, and my thoughts, is here: http://gardenerscorner.co.uk/forum/Thread-New-Version-Issues.html

Definately do not like the new forum. I spent ages trying to get in earlier today and nearly lost the plot. Tried again later and eventually got to a page to request a new password. The password/code I was sent, I copied and pasted into the relevant box and it still didn't work. Took ages to figure out how to contact admin, who to be fair did sort it out. Thankyou for that Admin.

I don't like the new layout. There was nothing wrong with the old one. Seems like change just for the sake of change. The old one had a familiar welcoming style. All this blue is very cold.

I am NOT the only neanderthal or technophobe. I don't like machines that do not run on a big V Twin engine. I know its not the site owners fault, but I have a tendency to smash computers when they do not do what I want them to do. Changes make me unsettled and uncomfortable. I have, in this case now got to learn how to find my way around the new forums. I can't find my old posts.

Also means I have to find out how to change my Password to something I can actually remember and do stuff with the profile thing.

We have a saying in the club "Why fix it if it ain't broke".

I agree with you Chopper, but I couldn't resist this:

"We have a saying in the club "Why fix it if it ain't broke"."

and we have a saying in the computer industry "If it ain't broke you haven't looked hard enough, fix it anyway!"

Sorry, call me old-fashioned, but I think it's a complete and utter mess.

Horizontal lines everywhere, between postings, within postings, thin blue lines, thick blue lines, black lines, solid lines, dotted lines - what's with so many horizontal lines guys?

Go from one page to another and everytime I get a message which says 'Stack overflow at line 97' which means didlly-squat to me and is bl**dy annoying.

    Yeuk - horrible, horrible, horrible.

PS - I see my 'Reputation level' is "0" - guessing it'll be in the minus category after this!!:heehee:
