A friend suggested buying those 99p plastic buckets sold by B&Q or cheaper ones wherever you can get them......
He said to drill one large hole (size of a penny) in the side of the bucket (an inch up from the bottom of the bucket) He says that this allows for some water reserves in the container and if there is too much then it will come out of the hole in the side of the bucket. I'm planning on looking for buckets to let me do this sort of gardening. I guess one could grow one courgette plant per bucket.

Pam what a good idea using compost bags for Potatoes I shall save mine and do that next year.
I use those large plastic milk bottle 4pt size with the bottoms cut off for cloches to protect tender plants so slugs cannot get them.

Hi all, this is my very first post, and I am a 'new' gardener. Be gentle with me.:o

I am about to plant out Maris Peer, ready for consumption at Christmas, but was wondering; would I be able to use the compost again, for use either as bedding compost in the spring, or for containers, or would it be ok to grow potatoes in it again?
Really hope all of that makes sense. Basically, can potato compost (once used) be used again, and what for?

Am loving this site, especially after I've discovered the joy of gardening again, after being dormant for a few years. I look forward to being here more often over the coming months and years ahead. :)

We have grown a potato plant in a brown bag from a superstore. Although it didn't make it to the end, (I fear I didn't water it enough) there were already some tiny potatoes, which tasted great cooked 5min and served with butter. This gave me confidence to repeat the experiment, perhaps in a bigger bag!
