Last year i grew peas in a raised bed, this year I am growing in containers. The containers i am using are what our local council supplied us as recycle boxes but are being fazed out. They are approx 30"x20" and 20" deep filled with a mix of garden soil and compost. So far i have planted 2 boxes each with approx 20 plants and have one more to plant this next week. I am growing Onward pea. the first lot is about ready for something to climb I was thinking of using galvanised wire to form a frame, but what height would be best? Another question do you think 20 plants will be a little crowded in these containers.

20 sounds ok to me. the support height depends on the variety of peas. a friend of ours grew 6ft high ones last year!

About three feet should be ok, but no harm in extending it a bit if you have the wire handy. Given the width you are growing in I'd be tempted to put some support in the middle of each container as well as around the sides. Twenty plants in that size should be fine.

Thanks for the replies So far I have put around 18" of support. This is in the form of hoops of wire and through the centre i have some lengths if clear plastic Venetian blind wands ( I work in a blind shop and have found the odd offcuts make great plant supports) I will add more as they grow I've got plenty wire.
