Blooming annoying fake security pop ups open up every few seconds, cant uninstall it, my full version of AVG can't find it.

Plenty of sites saying down load this to get rid of it, but how do I know which one to trust?

    Anyone else had this problem?

I changed from AVG to Avast.

Never a problem (touch wood) since.

 No Ziggy not had that problem..
I used it for years then it started going a bit strange & having conflicts with my other security ware, so just un-installed it & put Avast on instead.. I find Avast very good.. Daily updates & very secure as far as I can see.... I also have Spybot for clearing cookies etc, but AVG has changed quite allot now & seems to cause allot of problems..!!

I also use Mozilla Firefox not IE & that also adds extra security & you can tell it to stop the pop ups, but select one if you want it..!!!... :WINK1:

Ziggy - as well as Spybot try Malwarebytes it is excellent at finding the nasties that can entrench themselves in your system.

Ziggy, I had something similar a couple of years ago.

It crept in on a dodgy e mail.

I think if you download any thing that's suggested you get in deeper.

I had to get mine sorted by and expert.

If it's got a name you could go into the registry, search for it and remove it that way

    Got the little bugger :dbgrtmb:

Went into all programs, right clicked on it & delete, then went into recyle bin & deleted it from there. Spent half the morning trying to uninstall it, only to be told I can because it was taking instructions from a parent program, that must have been the daddy then.

Phew, back to the gardening then. Thanks for all the suggestions everyone

I have had a similar problem with a sticky toolbar in the past, which installed itself. I think there is a basic rule - that is that you say no to everything that approaches you. Only install items where you have to go and find it yourself.

Its essentially the same rule for junk mail and nuisance telephone calls etc.

Ziggy, have you only got AVG or do you have another security system that was installed with your laptop when you bought it. The reason I ask is AVG has been known to conflict with other like programs such as Kapersky, McAfee and one or two others . There is Malware ,which is trustworthy and good, which will pick up anything nasty in your computer. Spybot is another good un - and both are free.

I run a daily scan with AVG and a weekly one with Malwarebytes. No probs with them at all.

I used Malwarebytes to clean up a neighbour's PC who had a very robust nasty (fake virus warning pop-up) that had got past her normal AV. It worked a treat though it did take an hour or two.

I would also visit the Spybot site and down-load it. It's free and will do a good job, along with the malware, to find and destroy anything that might be causing you the problem.
