    HI!

Every week I remove some water from our aquarium and have had the thought that maybe this would be good for the garden?

Does anyone else here do this, and can anyone think of a reason why this might be a bad idea?

    Thanks!

I used to keep oscars in a big tank and poured a bucket over my plants. From basic chemistry I think the water either had nitrates or nitrites in it.It caused the plants no harm

    Cheers Poolcue,

Just thought that water was going to waste, especially with the add 'fertilizer' from the fish. Another tick on the recycling list!

We change the fish water, roughly 15 gallons every 2 weeks.Apart from just drawing out water we also suck the fish "poo" off the bottom.
For a few years especially in summer we distribute this over the garden which is better than just poring it down the drain.Never put it on the veggies but always in the garden containers and flowers in the borders. The flowers seem to love it and the ferns especially, must be all the natural fertilizer :dbgrtmb::heehee:

We have a large family of guppies... which are all heavy poopers, so plenty of fertilizer there!

I always recycle the water from my aquariums when doing a partial change, watering all the pots in the garden.:)

If its cold water, warm water or brackish then its likely to be full of nitrate and therefore and excellent fertilizer. As already mentioned above if its salt water dont use it as most plants are not tolorant of high salinity water.

Only thing we throw in the water is fish food, so all is good! Never put any additives or such in the water... Pump has 2 tesco value sponges (about 15p for 5 of them) as filters, and from the initial 6 fish we purchased, we now have around 30 of them... 10 of which are pregnant...

Must be doing something right!... I say to anyone... TESCO VALUE SPONGES! :heehee:

    Thanks for everyones help!
